HOW LONG DOES WINDOW TINTING LAST?

Unfortunately, tint film isn’t indestructible. But the estimate of how long it’ll last relies on a whole host of factors. The longevity of your window tinting film is completely dependent on the type and quality of the film you have installed as well as the skill of the person who initially applies the film. While there is some minor disagreement over whether or not the amount and severity of the sun the film is exposed to will affect how tenaciously it sticks to your windows, it’s generally agreed upon that the majority of its longevity can be attributed to the person who installed it. IS THE SUN A FACTOR?

It depends, while the large portion of the responsibility goes to the installer, there’s also something to be said about the quality of the film you’re using for your window tinting project. In hotter, more brutal climates like Arizona and even Colorado’s sun, if the film quality is initially inferior, you might actually see the tint start to discolor and the dye might fade away entirely in months. However, if you have a quality film installed, like the standard hybrid film type that’s most popular on the market at this point, you’ll get about 5 years of use out of it before it starts to lose its luster. For the better and more high-end films that are metalized deposition window films or sputtered window tinting, you can easily expect at least 10 years of usage.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WINDOW TINTING BUBBLING

If you’re worried about the window film deteriorating quickly, you’ll be able to see evidence of it on the rear window of your vehicle before you’ll see it anywhere else. It’s exposed the most to the sun and therefore, reacts most noticeably. The film will start to bubble and pucker making the tinting look uneven and blotchy and many times once this process begins the tint will start to look closer to purple than black because of gradual discoloring. If this happens, the window tint manufacturer is to blame, as they went cheap on the dye within the film.

HOW TO AVOID PREMATURE AGING

We won’t recommend rubbing anti-aging on your window tinting, but we will recommend doing your research beforehand. In the age of Yelp and Amazon, you can look up just about any product and find balanced reviews as well as poor and raving reviews. This should help you to make a more educated decision on the type of window tinting you invest in. As a rule of thumb, we recommend only purchasing name brand window tints and having it installed by a pro window tint installation shop.

DOES WINDOW TINTING REQUIRE AFTER-CARE?

In short, kinda, but probably not. Like most things that “require care” it all boils down to how much care you actually want to put into something. For example, if you want your newly installed hardwood flooring to last into the next century, you’ll probably pay for the extra great floor cleaning scrub, specially outfitted for cherry oak flooring. With window tinting, it’s the same story. If you’d like your window tinting to last until you total your car out in around 15 years or sell it, then you might consider putting in a bit of extra work here and there to keep your car and your window tinting sharp throughout the coming years.

CAN YOU WASH YOUR CAR WITH WINDOW TINTING?

For your car to still be able to hold up against hail damage and other unfortunate results of inclimate weather in Denver, it’ll need to be waterproof. The window tinting itself isn’t waterproof necessarily, but your windows themselves still are. When we apply window tinting to your vehicle, we apply the film to the inside of the windows so that it won’t be subjected to the trials of nature. Since it’s not constantly being exposed to the elements, the window tinting will naturally last much longer, mainly this is applied when holding sand and other debris in mind that will actually damage the film rather than a spot of water.

SHOULD I CLEAN THE WINDOW TINTING?

If you’ve just invested in a nice spring cleaning for the exterior of your vehicle and want to turn your eye to the interior, how are you supposed to go about cleaning the inside of your windows? Cleaning the interior should be pretty straight-forward. If you have kids with sticky fingers and dogs with wet noses or even just friends that like to touch glass you might have smudges on the window tinting film, it might be in need of a good wipe down. We recommend passing over the window cleaner and even the 409 cleaners as well as your window tint won’t require harsh chemicals to pull stains and other stuff up and off of it. Use a soft cloth first to wipe off any large, chunky debris first. These could scratch the film while your cleaning so it’s best to take care of that first. Afterward, merely get a cloth of sponge damp with clean water and wipe down the interior of the windows. That should successfully pull up any dirt without damaging the film. If you decide to use mild soap, like hand soap, make sure to wipe the window clean of the soap or else the soap might dry on the film and manage the window tinting.
